Learning to Live the Jesus Life

Serving

Our church is a community and a family, where everyone has an essential part to play

God gives each of us gifts and talents to serve one another and our wider community. Through serving we can grow more like Jesus and share his love with others. So, we ask all our members to commit to serving in a ministry of Christ Church.

Serving our children

Would you like to volunteer to support some of our youngest members of the church family? There’s so much to get involved in from Sunday groups, schools work, toddler ministry, one-off events, and more. Supporting our children’s work is not always frontline work, perhaps you would like to help with admin, communication or preparing activities? Whichever area best suits your unique talents and gifts, we encourage you to let us know by clicking the button below.

Serving our Schools

Would you like to help local school children experience the wonder and awe of spiritual awakening? Our schools team, led by Schools Chaplain Julie Gardner, visit local primary schools with prayer spaces and assemblies, and host children at church for Experience Journeys and special services. Julie also spends time in each school to support them with permanent prayer spaces and to give children the chance to spend one to one time.

Serving our young people

Would you like to help our Youth Team equip and raise up the next generation? There’s so much to get involved in from Sunday groups, mid-week youth groups and community action projects and well-being courses in Downend School. Supporting our young people is not always frontline work, perhaps you would like to help with admin, communication or buying of resources? Whichever area best suits your unique talents and gifts we encourage you to let us know by clicking the button below and send us an email.

Serving our small groups

The people who lead our Life groups can take on different roles including host or facilitator.  Our Life groups are varied and meet at different times and locations. If you feel called into serving in a new or existing small group, we would love to hear from you by clicking the button below and send us an e-mail.

Serving older members of our community with the Anna Chaplaincy

Anne-Louise Critchlow, our Anna Chaplain, leads a team who minister to older people in local care homes through communion services and special events. Anne-Louise also runs a monthly session for seniors called Vintage Adventure, on the fourth Tuesday of the month. This outreach event provides a friendly and welcoming space with activities and refreshments, a worship focus and visits from the local primary school and pre school in Bromley Heath.

Serving at Warm Space

Every Thursday we open our doors to the public to come and enjoy good company, coffee and a hot meal: all for free! What began as a reaching out to people who might be struggling to put the heating on, has turned into a thriving community of people who are glad to meet others and enjoy food. Twice a month there is live entertainment by The Music Train, who specialise in playing to adults with learning difficulties. The band play popular songs through the ages and encourage dancing and audience participation. Would you like to be part of the catering, serving, washing up or welcome team, led by churchwarden Maggie Nichols?

Serving our environment

We believe in caring for God’s creation as responsible stewards. We are developing this area of our ministry and have a bronze Eco Award from the Diocese and A Rocha. We aim to work towards net zero and also encourage engagement with the natural world, especially among children and young people. Past projects include creating a bug hotel and bat boxes, and making planters outside the parish hall. We are currently installing air source heat pumps at the parish hall. We help to look after the churchyard with regular work parties.

Serving in other areas

From ensuring people receive a warm welcome, to playing in the band, filming a service, serving tea and coffee, providing admin support, there is so much to get involved in. Join our ministry to the older generation at Warm Space or Vintage Adventure. Befriend a client in debt. Help us become more environmentally friendly. Whichever area of life at Christ Church that you feel best suits your unique talents and gifts we encourage you to get in contact.
