Learning to Live the Jesus Life

Nehemiah – the Blessings of Repentance

Our sermon series for Jan/ Feb focuses on the book of Nehemiah and the blessings of repentance: this is where we start with God: repentance is our launchpad for a closer relationship with God and a growing love for him and for others.

It may seem like a tough subject but the blessings will surprise us all in their abundance!

Jan 11th  Nehemiah – The need for Jesus (13:15-31) The story of Nehemiah is of a manpassionate about the glory of God. Ultimately he finds sin so ingrained that he cannot bring the people back to God. It points to the need of a Saviour who can break the power of sin so we are truly free. It points to Jesus.

Jan 18th (communion)  Remorseful Repentance (1:1-11) leads to deep lament and sorrow when things are not right. It’s being real before God, acknowledging what’s wrong, turning and knowing forgiveness

Jan 25th  Repentance Rewarded (2:1-9) finds our heart aligned to God’s. Our pray life becomes more informed and effective. We find answers to prayers prayed in line with the will of God

Feb 1st  Repentance Rights Wrongs (5:1-13) because a heart, changed before God, becomes sensitive to the need for justice for others. We see things through God’s eyes becoming courageous advocates for change

Feb 8th  Repentance Realigns (8:1-3, 8-12,18- 9:3)  our lives as a result of spending time reading God’s Word and from self-examination through the Holy Spirit and prayer

Feb 15th  Repentance Requires Action (13: 1-14) which is relentless in weeding out those things that challenge our integrity and undermine our faith. Soul-searching and reflection point the way but action, and commitment to correct, are the building blocks of spiritual growth
