About 2 years ago, a group of Christians from The Sanctuary Church, Pendennis Good News Church and Christ Church started to meet to pray specifically for the Pendennis Flats area. We used to join together once a year for carol singing, but we felt like we wanted to do more for our nearest neighbours. Then in March 2018 at Downend SOUP (a local Community Social Action project – the winner was Jane Rogers from Jumpstart Food & Fitness. She was running an after school club for Primary age children, with fun, sports, running, fruit & friendship. I thought it was a great idea, and we started to plan running our own after school club at Pendennis Flats.

In June 2018 the Tuesday Move It Club began, on Tuesdays 3.30-4.30pm on the grass outside The Staple Hill Community Hub. We were given permission to use the facilities of the Community Hub, (toilets, kitchen & common room).

Never in my imagination, had I thought that we could have so much fun. Nic Barnett from Pendennis Good News Church has the best games ideas, and we have a biscuit and a drink at the start, and try a new fruit at the end of each session.

We have seen our children growing in confidence, developing new ball skills & sports skills, having fun & making friendships with neighbouring children. And we have started to make friends with lots of parents and younger children too, who are passing our club on their way home from school. It has been such a joy to then see these friends coming along to Messy Church or our Bounce events at Pendennis & at Christ Church.

Why are we doing it ? Well, we want to show God’s love, and there seems to be no better place to do that than right here in Downend & Staple Hill. The Pendennis Flats are right on our doorstep and we are grateful for such a great place to be doing it.
