Although our church membership includes many who live beyond our parish borders, Christ Church is the Anglican (Church of England) Parish Church of Downend in the Diocese of Bristol, serving a population of over 25,000 people including those living in the communities of Staple Hill, Blackhorse, Bromley Heath and part of Emersons Green.
The aim of all we do can be summarised in the invitation to learn to live the life. This vision is firmly rooted in the Bible’s teaching about what it means to be a Christian in the 21st century. We believe that every Christian has a calling to minister the love of God to those they meet in their day to day living and as a church we seek to encourage and equip one another for this calling.
Our membership reflects the variety of ages and backgrounds in the parish, including many young families and children, as well as a thriving youth ministry. We trust that whoever comes to Christ Church will find a friendly welcome, together with a varied and helpful pattern of worship and a genuine concern for all.
More details of our vision can be found in vision and leadership.
Our stories
During the coronavirus pandemic, in the Autumn of 2020, we relooked once more at our vision, asking again what it meant to follow Jesus in the new normal. We called the series Making a Difference where you are, and as part of it we included interviews, sharing the stories of many of our church members and how they followed Jesus day to day. Hopefully they give you a good insight as to who we are as a church family! To view them either watch below or follow this link to find all of the stories!
