May Bank Holiday saw a team of 67 young people and adults from Christ Church Downend taking part in ‘The Noise 2019’. The Noise is an annual event where volunteers from churches across the city get together to show God’s love in practical ways by participating in community projects.
The Christ Church team provided a free cream tea event for over 40 senior citizens, ran a free family fun afternoon attended by over 300 children and their families, sent two teams of litter pickers around Downend and Staple Hill, painted the Parish Hall and did a range of restoration projects at Christ Church Junior school, including clearing and planting flower beds, painting a corridor damaged in the recent library flood, clearing paths in the beautiful forest school area and a host of other tasks.
Diane Paddon, one of the youth leaders who organised the group’s involvement in The Noise, said: “Another fun and fruitful Noise weekend, driven by the youth but involving the wider Church family; our biggest Noise team yet. A big Noisy thank you to everyone involved.”
Pippa Osborne, Head Teacher at Christ Church Junior School, “We were absolutely delighted that the Youth team from Christ Church, Downend approached us for a second year to help make a difference on our school grounds as part of Bristol’s The Noise project. Over the course of two days, two large teams have tackled an incredible amount of much needed work including on our gardening areas, benches and seating, internal painting and forest area to make them safer and more appealing for our children to play and learn in. We feel so blessed by the strong link that we have with Christ Church and so grateful to the whole team for giving up their bank holiday to work with us and continue to strengthen our school for every child in our care. Thanks again to all the team – it is fantastic to see the difference”.
