Adam Weary who plays basketball for the Bristol Flyers shares some of his life story so far with our Sunday teenagers’ group. We made a recording of his story and it is so worth hearing it.

Adam shares about moving from New York to Memphis, his family, his basketball, his success in sport yet feeling empty, facing an injury and being unable to play basketball, blaming God and finally reaching out to God.

His whole identity was in basketball and then with an injury he realised he was empty and then he started to reach out to God. He started with praying to God and reaching out to Him, and then he was hungry to read the Bible. He woke up his Mum at 3am to ask her for a Bible and he started to read Matthew’s gospel. After three hours of reading he read the reassuring words from Matthew 11:28-30. Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest…

He also shares how these words made sense to him and how he understood for the first time that he could have a personal relationship with God. Adam has been playing basketball in Bristol and he also shared how he ended up coming along to Christ Church.

Matthew 11:27-30 New International Version (NIV)

27 “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
