People from Christ Church and others in Downend raised over £430, to provide a simple Christmas meal for over 1,000 pupils children at Bazaar School in Kumi, Uganda. In addition, some of the money will feed Prisoners in Kumi Prison on Christmas Day.
Jan and Richard Bacon, who volunteer for a Charity called Mission Direct, with help from friends, once again held an alternative Christmas Meal consisting of typical African food (beans, rice, posho, sukamawiki and relish) plus the ever-popular bananas!
Jan and Richard were amazed and very grateful for the generosity and support of the people who attended.
Their main work in Uganda, is building much needed classrooms in very overcrowded schools. Many of the pupils at Kumi Bazaar School, where the classrooms are currently being built, come to school having not had any food, this is a big barrier to education. The simple meal provided will be a banquet for a lot of the children and prisoners in Kumi.
