Family Forest Day – Saturday 15 June 2019
Come and join us on our annual day out to Phil & Kathy’s farm in the Brecon Beacons. We take as many families as we can, and bring along anyone else who wants a day out, and we spend a lovely relaxed day getting to know other families and spending precious time in the outdoors, enjoying God’s creation. We set off from Downend by car at about 8.45am, and can usually offer lifts to anyone who wants one too. Arriving at the farm at about 10am we have coffee, then a together time in one of the barns. The rest of the morning we usually make dens in the woods with string and saws & secateurs. Others look for fascinating wildlife in the stream, with little nets and buckets. Grown ups are very much involved and many get very into the Bear Grylls mood very well.
We gather for a picnic lunch in the farmhouse gardens and then set off on a stroll into the Brecon beacons. After an hour or so strolling, sometimes we see a pony or two on the moorland then its time to get back to the house for a cup of tea, and the team get cooking a lovely BBQ for everyone. Finally we end our day with toasting marshmallows on the bonfire down in the woods.
In 2018, we met Bunny Wunny while we had the bonfire, and we had a lovely little story time with him, just before we left to head back home to Downend. Children were happy, tired & fed & parents were blessed to take them home and just roll them into their beds, dreaming of hills, the moorland, ponies, games, the dens we made and the friends we spent time with.
