Signs of life in the darkness

It may be cold but there’s plenty of life in the churchyard at Christ Church Downend.  Search for insects over-wintering in the bug hotel. Find green shoots peeping though the autumn leaves already, even though the darkest day has not yet come. Trace the patterns on the Celtic crosses, mirroring the ongoing cycle of life and the everlasting love of God: feel what you cannot see. And there are angels everywhere, guarding and guiding. Which one is your favourite?

Pick up a trail map by the gate and explore – you may want to move a bit faster at this time of year but peace will still catch up with you as you lose yourselves in wonder. There are still plenty of leaves to kick around too!

Our seasonal Wonder Walks help us to see that every space is God-filled, every pause Spirit- filled; every day a day to discover more of God’s love through our surroundings. Whether you hear God’s voice clearly or catch a fleeting glimpse of something out there, find stillness through the wonder of a child capering about or in the stillness of solitude.
